What exactly causes a person to be born left handed? Scientists aren’t exactly sure, but research points to a complex collaboration between environment and genes. Even though no exact set of ‘leftie genes’ have been discovered, people who dominantly use their left hands do tend to have more left-handed family members too.
Across the globe, only 10 % of the population are left-handed and scientists say that it's been like that for thousands of years.
Lefties do tend to have their own peculiar traits. Studies have shown that they may be more on a creative side than righties since they use both hemispheres of their brains. Therefore, naturally they are drawn to careers in the arts, music, sports, and information-technology fields. Also, it’s a known fact that left-handed people are more prone to certain conditions, including dyslexia, ADHD, and psychological disorders, but the exact reason has not been found yet.
Lefties excel in sports mainly due to the fact that they have the surprise advantage, reason being that they practice more against the right-handers, but the right-handers don't practice much against them.
Various famous people are known to be left handed; mainly US presidents, including Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Gerald Ford. Ronald Reagan is said to have been ambidextrous, just like our own Bollywood celebrity Amitabh Bachchan. Mother Teresa, Angelina Jolie, Oprah Winfrey, Sonakshi Sinha etc are the famous ladies who are left handed.
