26 people were killed and several others went missing in different incidents of landslides and flood triggered by the continuous rainfall in Kerala. Shutters of 22 dams were opened, including the largest one in Idukki, as the water level continued to rise. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan described the situation as "very grim".
