In probably a first in Kerala, the shutters of 23 dams have been opened. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said the situation is highly alarming, and that they were taking measures to mitigate the situation. The unprecedented rains had caused severe damage in several districts of Kerala. In various areas, landslides and floods have been reported.
