The Central Government has declared the recent floods in Kerala, which caused widespread devastation and left more than 200 dead, as a “calamity of severe nature,” paving the way for greater financial and other assistance for the state from the Centre. According to the early estimates, the state has suffered a loss of more than Rs 20,000 crores.
