After the initial outcry that bats were responsible for spreading the fatal Nipah virus, it has been discovered that the analysis was wrong. Though bats are primary reservoirs of viruses that cause zoonotic diseases, such outbreaks are rare. Bats help farmers by providing organic manure and also help in pollination and in controlling insects and pests.
