Sudha Murthy is the Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, who is a social worker and a philanthropist. Sudha Murthy was born on 19 August 1950 in Shivamogga in Karnataka. She graduated in Electrical Engineering from the B.V.B College Of Engineering & Technology  and completed M.E. in Computer Science from the Indian Institute Of Science.  She stood first in her class for both the courses and was a recipient of a gold medal for her achievement.

She is a brilliant woman whose bravery is proved from the very fact that she was the first woman to enroll in engineering when it was considered a male domain in the 1960s. She was the first female engineer in TELCO. Sudha Murthy married N.R Narayana Murthy, while employed as an engineer at TELCO in Pune. In 2006, Sudha was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest-ranking civilian award from the Government Of India,  and also received an honorary doctorate for her contributions in the spheres of philanthropy, social work and education.

 

 

 

She is a multi faceted personality combining the roles of a social worker, a brilliant engineer, a homemaker, an author and she keeps on adding more roles. She is also a movie buff and loves watching movies. Her philanthropy is spread across various areas of healthcare, education, empowerment of women, public hygiene, art and culture, and poverty alleviation. Sudha has written and published many books which include technical books, travelogues, children’s books, short stories, six novels and three educative books. JRD Tata has been her inspiration to be a philanthropist and his words ‘If you are successful in making money you must give it back to society as you have received so much goodwill from it.’ has been her driving force in life.
