One of the most common stereotypes, across various cultures, could be that women are perceived as individuals with poor driving skills. The jokes made on the account of this assumption are countless in number. Sneha Kamath, is a women entrepreneur whose initiative debunked this myth and helped empower women by letting them dream and drive! ‘She Can Drive’ is a car driving institute, in India, that is an all women organization.
Sneha, from a very young, has been no stranger to struggle. She took to several odd jobs, saving to secure an academic future. After completing her masters in Sociology, she took up and completed a MS Certified Service Engineer course. A naturally skillful driver, Sneha was introduced to the knacks of driving by her brother. But when Sneha’s sister struggled to accomplish the same task, she realized that there are several women who refrained from driving simply because the circumstances were not in their favor. This realization is what drove the initiation of her innovative venture.
Sneha envisioned an environment where women were allowed to learn driving whilst remaining in their comfort zone. Furthermore, to encourage more women and their families, she instilled plans like a 10 day money back policy if the student failed to pick up the skill. Since its inception in 2012, Sneha has trained over 700 women. Her students include senior citizens; those of who have finally mustered the courage to break free the barriers of patriarchy.
Sneha Kamath’s future plans involve giving back to the society by approaching the rural communities of India and by offering training programs to the women there. She believes that the skill could offer them a rich scope for a more dignified and independent life. The recipient of several awards and accolades, this young woman has not only reeled out of her own struggles but has also gathered the means to empower several other women, alongside.
