Sania Mirza, India’s top female tennis player, was born in Mumbai on 15 November in 1986. She did her schooling from Nasr School in Hyderabad. She started playing tennis at the age of 6 under the guidance of her father Imran Mirza. She turned a professional in 2003 and is the highest ranked female tennis player in India in singles as well as in doubles. She became the first Indian woman to achieve the world number one ranking in the doubles segment of WTA.
In 2004, Mirza was awarded the Arjuna award by the Indian Government and in 2006, she was awarded a Padma Shri, India's fourth highest honour for her achievements as a tennis player. In the year 2014, the government of Telangana appointed Sania Mirza as the brand ambassador of the state. She was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2015 which is the highest sporting honour of the Republic of India. She is also known for her beauty and has appeared in several television shows. She is married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.
