Uttarakhand launches balloon to take internet to villages

As a pilot project to provide free Wi-Fi to remote villages, Uttarakhand has launched balloon-based internet at IT Park in Dehradun. The IIT-Bombay provided aerostat technology has a surveillance camera, a base transceiver antenna to make calls and a Wi-Fi modem to provide internet. The hydrogen filled aerostat can float in the air for 14 days.
