The sun to become a planetary nebula after death

Scientists believe that our Sun will shrink to become a planetary nebula, a luminous ring of interstellar gas and dust. The phenomenon will take place in about 10 billion years from now. Although this has been a point of debate for the last 25 years, the data now shows that low mass stars like the Sun can also produce bright planetary nebulae.
