The test on fish samples collected from Chinthadripet and Kasimedu, the two major fish markets in Chennai, confirmed presents of formalin. It is a cancer-inducing chemical used illegally to preserve fish. Carcinogen is also widely used as a preservative and disinfectant. Formalin causes irritation in the eyes, throat, skin and stomach.
