Sexism in sumo rings

When Maizuru Mayor Ryozo Tatami collapsed inside the sumo ring, a lady who was a nurse also rushed to help, only to be turned away.  She was not allowed to enter the ring due to the centuries-old tradition of banning women because of the “impurity” associated with menstrual blood. Protests have been registered against the discriminatory rule.
