Over 7,000 Indians apply for US asylum in 2017: UN

The UN refugee agency said that over 7,000 Indians filed applications seeking asylum in the US. The US was the most sought after country in 2017 by refugees, said its annual Global Trends report. Wars, other violence and persecution drove worldwide forced displacement to a new high. Over 68.5mn people globally were displaced in 2017, it noted.
