NASA is to send a mini helicopter called rotorcraft to Mars as part of the 2020 mission. It has two counter-rotating blades, a fuselage size of a softball and weighs about 1.8 kgs. It will be left on the Martian surface by a car-sized rover that will issue commands from a safe distance. The copter will reach places inaccessible from the ground.
