Maharashtrian girls married off illegally by parents

According to Vijaya Rahatkar, chairperson of Maharashtra’s women’s commission, girls are trafficked into domestic servitude or sex slavery after their parents illegally marry them off before turning 18. The state is conducting its 1st survey linking child marriage and slavery. Parents, who do so, face fine of 100,000 rupees and 2 years in prison.
