How melatonin solves sleep disorders

Melatonin has been used as a sleep drug for many years, but it was not known how it worked. Researchers from University of Missouri School of Medicine have found how melatonin suppresses neurons in the brain to keep awake and alert. The research singled out one receptor, MTI via which melatonin acts, which could lead to medications that target MTI.
