How does the Leaning Tower survive earthquakes?

Scientists say that the Leaning Tower of Pisa has endured earthquakes since 1280 because of the soft foundational soil beneath it. This phenomenon is known as dynamic soil-structure interaction. The tower's height and stiffness combined with the softness of the soil gives it vibrational characteristics which does not resonate with ground motion.
