Elderly people suffer a risk of dying after fractures

Researchers say that increased risk of dying after older adults break a bone is real, long-lasting and not limited to hip fractures. An analysis of mortality among people aged 50 and older found an increase in mortality risk of up to 25% with other types of fractures as well. The risk of dying is highest in the year immediately after the fracture.
