At least 10 people died in Tamil Nadu’s Toothukudi when police fired at hundreds of protesters marching against a copper smelting plant. Protesters wanted the permanent closure of the copper plant, which they said have polluted the region because of disposal of copper waste and effluents from the operational unit. It is owned by the Vedanta group.
